Red Sox send IF Holt, LHP Johnson to IL

The Boston Red Sox placed infielder Brock Holt and left-handed pitcher Brian Johnson on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Holt has a scratched cornea in his right eye and Johnson has inflammation in his throwing elbow.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled infielder/outfielder Tzu-Wei Lin and right-handed pitcher Marcus Walden from Triple-A Pawtucket. Like the 2-7 Red Sox, Holt, 30, has gotten off to a rough start for the 2019 season. In six games, he is batting .063 with just one hit.

Johnson, 28, is 1-0 in four relief appearances but has given up eight runs in 5 2/3 innings, leaving him with a 12.71 ERA. Lin has appeared in 62 games over parts of the past two seasons for the Red Sox. The 25-year-old has a career .256 (31-of-122) average with one home run, six doubles and eight RBI.

Walden, 30, opened the 2018 season with the Red Sox and had three stints on the roster. He appeared in eight games in relief, giving up six runs in 14.2 innings with 14 strikeouts. The Red Sox meet the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday night in Phoenix.
