Mets activate P Matz from IL

The New York Mets activated pitcher Steven Matz from the 10-day injured list on Saturday in time to start an afternoon game against the Marlins in Miami. The left-hander had been sidelined with radial nerve discomfort in his pitching forearm.

The 27-year-old entered the game Saturday with a 3-2 record and 3.86 ERA in seven starts. He has 32 strikeouts in 35 innings this season. In a corresponding move, the Mets sent right-handed reliever Paul Sewald to Triple-A Syracuse to clear a roster spot.

Sewald, 28, appeared in 103 games over the 2017-18 seasons for New York. This season, he has pitched in four games and allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings. --Field Level Media
