Rockies best game homestand draw with series sweep against Blue Jays

Nolan Arenado and Chris Iannetta homered, Antonio Senzatela tossed six strong innings, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 in Denver on Sunday. Arenado added a single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and help Colorado win its eighth in a row. The Rockies finished their homestand 9-1, tying a team record for the best 10-game homestand.

Eric Sogard had two hits and scored the only run for Toronto. The Blue Jays have lost six straight. Senzatela (4-4) had a shaky first inning but settled down to allow just one run on four hits. He is the third straight Colorado starter to go at least six innings.

Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez (3-6) also pitched six innings but didn't get run support from the Blue Jays lineup to back his solid start at Coors Field. He allowed four runs on seven hits. Toronto took its first lead of the series in the first inning but missed an opportunity to tack on runs. Sogard and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led off with singles and Sogard scored when Justin Smoak reached on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.

After a groundout by Randal Grichuk, Cavan Biggio walked to load the bases but Guerrero was forced out at home on a fielder's choice. Freddy Galvis flew out to end the inning. The Rockies tied it in their half of the inning when Dahl, Arenado and Daniel Murphy had one-out singles. They took the lead on Dahl's RBI to double in the second that drove in Senzatela.

Iannetta's two-out RBI double in the third inning gave Colorado a 3-1 lead. He then hit a ball to the concourse in left field in the sixth to give the Rockies a three-run lead. Iannetta's fifth homer travelled an estimated 476 feet. Justin Shafer replaced Sanchez to start the seventh and gave up Arenado's 16th homer of the season to make it 5-1. It was the 202nd home run of Arenado's career and moved him into sole possession of fifth place on Colorado's all-time list.
