Lee Chong Wei former world No. 1 announces retirement

Malaysian cancer-hit badminton player Lee Chong Wei, former world No. 1, announced his retirement from professional badminton. As a singles player, Lee was ranked first worldwide for 199 consecutive weeks from 21 August 2008 to 14 June 2012.

Lee is a triple silver medalist at the Olympic Games, and the sixth Malaysian to win an Olympic medal.

Lee did not participate in any tournaments in 2019, despite rumours that he planned to make comeback in Malaysia Open. Eventually, Lee announced his retirement from badminton today.
