Swiss 22nd seed Stan Wawrinka was dragged into a dogfight by American Reilly Opelka, who beat the three-time Grand Slam winner 7-5 3-6 4-6 6-4 8-6 in three hours and 13 minutes. Belgium's David Goffin advanced with a routine 6-2 6-4 6-3 victory over Jeremy Chardy while Czech Jiri Vesely joined him in the third round by beating Pablo Cuevas 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4 6-4.
