Lions C Ragnow practices, on track for opener

- United States
Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow returned from an ankle injury to practice on Tuesday, putting him on track for Sunday's season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Ragnow had not practiced since hurting his ankle in the Aug. 23 preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. After initial concern about the injury, it was diagnosed as a minor sprain.
Ragnow, 23, moved to center this season after starting all 16 games at left guard as a rookie. He was the Lions' first-round pick (20th overall) in 2018. Linebacker Jarrad Davis, defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand and cornerback Rashaan Melvin stretched with the team but sat out the portion of practice that was open to the media. Hand has been out since the first week of camp, while Davis and Melvin were hurt against Buffalo.
The Lions don't have to issue an official injury report until Wednesday. Detroit also announced Tuesday it released wide receiver Andy Jones from injured reserve.
