New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley continued his rapid recovery from an ankle injury and possibly could play in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Newsday reported. Barkley, who was originally expected to miss four-to-eight weeks after sustaining a high ankle sprain in Week 3, was seen running and changing direction off to the side while teammates practiced Thursday during a time period open to the media.
Giants head coach Pat Shurmur, via Newsday's Tom Rock, said Barkley would do "a little bit more" Thursday and it was possible the running back plays in Sunday's home game. Barkley, 22, sustained the injury during the Giants' 32-31 win at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 22.
The 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year missed the first game of his career Sunday when New York breezed to a 24-3 win over the Washington Redskins. Barkley has rushed 37 times for 237 yards (6.4-yard average) with one touchdown and added 11 catches for 74 yards in three games this season.
