Bruins D Krug placed on injured reserve
Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug was placed on injured reserve prior to the team's opener of a home-and-home set against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Krug sustained an upper-body injury after absorbing a hit from forwarding Tom Wilson in the Bruins' 7-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday.
The 28-year-old Krug leads the team's defensemen in scoring with 26 points (five goals, 21 assists) in 33 games this season. Fellow defenseman Steven Kampfer was recalled from Providence of the American Hockey League to replace Krug, who has recorded 63 goals, 251 assists and 199 penalty minutes in 495 career games -- all with Boston.
Kampfer has yet to dent the scoresheet in four games with the NHL's Bruins and has four assists in six games with the AHL club. The 31-year-old has collected 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) in 205 career games with the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, and Bruins.
