Red Sox LHP Rodriguez loses arbitration case

Boston Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez lost his arbitration case and will make $8.3 million this season, according to multiple reports. Rodriguez had requested $8,975,000 after having a career-best campaign in 2019 when he went 19-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 34 starts. He made $4,325,000 in 2019.

Arbitrators Steven Wolf, Walt De Treux and Melinda Gordon heard arguments in the case on Wednesday. Rodriguez, who turns 27 in April, is 51-31 with a 4.03 ERA in 127 career appearances (122 starts) over five major league seasons, all with Boston. He owns a 32-11 mark over the past two campaigns.

Teams are 5-1 against players in arbitration thus far. Milwaukee All-Star closer Josh Hader had his case heard on Thursday. Hader requested $6.4 million, and the Brewers countered with $4.1 million.
