Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon X Plus platform for AI-Supercharged PCs

Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its premier Snapdragon X Series platform portfolio with the introduction of the Snapdragon X Plus which is set to transform the PC industry.

The Snapdragon X Plus platform features the Qualcomm Oryon CPU, a custom-integrated processor that offers a substantial 37% increase in CPU performance over its competitors while being 54% more power-efficient.

The new platform features Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, which boasts a processing capability of 45 TOPS - making it the fastest Neural Processing Unit (NPU) available for laptops.

Qualcomm showcased several AI-optimized applications and features running on the 45 TOPS NPU including:

• Code Generation: Using Codegen in Visual Studio Code, this feature aids programmers by instantly generating new code directly on the device.
• Music Creation: Generate new music from prompts or pre-existing music by using Riffusion on-device AI on Audacity
• Real-Time Translation: OBS Studio supports live captions, offering real-time automatic translation of speech in 100 languages into captions in as many languages in real-time using Whisper on-device.

PCs powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite platforms are expected to launch from leading global OEMs starting mid-2024.
