Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that Moscow continues to stand for keeping space free of weapons.

She was speaking after the failure this week of a Russian-drafted United Nations Security Council resolution that called on all countries to prevent "for all time" the placement, threat or use of any weapons in outer space.

Russia's top arms control diplomat this week dismissed as "fake news" an assertion by the United States that Russia had launched a weapon into low-Earth orbit that was capable of inspecting and attacking other satellites. (Writing by Felix Light; Editing by Mark Trevelyan)
