Suzuki Accelerates Toward a Greener Future with Light Vehicle Strategy

Suzuki Motor Corporation announced a focus on light body structures and small batteries for their vehicles, including electric models, to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve resources. They aim to produce energy-efficient vehicles, improve combustion engines globally, and develop affordable software-defined vehicles to minimize energy consumption.

Suzuki Motor Corporation revealed on Wednesday its commitment to employing light body structures and small batteries to power its vehicle models, including electric ones, across various global markets, with significant emphasis on India.

The Japanese company outlined its ten-year technology strategy, emphasizing that compact and light vehicles not only cut CO2 emissions during their use but also conserve resources and reduce CO2 emissions during production. This approach aligns with their goal of resource conservation and CO2 reduction.

Suzuki, holding a 58 percent stake in Maruti Suzuki India, plans to further advance its lightweight and safety body platform 'HEARTECT' and aims to minimize energy consumption using weight reduction technology. For battery electric vehicles and hybrid models, Suzuki intends to deliver highly energy-efficient vehicles tailored to the renewable energy ratios and usage conditions prevalent in different countries and regions.

To enhance energy efficiency in internal combustion engines, Suzuki has developed the high-efficiency Z12E engine, which optimizes combustion. The company plans to expand the use of this engine worldwide while working towards minimal energy consumption through carbon-neutral fuels and next-generation hybrids.

In the realm of software-defined vehicles (SDV), Suzuki aims to provide customers with cost-effective systems that enhance vehicle value by minimizing energy consumption, facilitating straightforward software updates through a combination of wired and wireless over-the-air (OTA) methods. Additionally, Suzuki is set to reduce both component and development costs by sharing hardware and reusing software.

Moving forward, Suzuki will embed circular economy principles into its production to save resources. They will design products that are easy to disassemble, facilitating recycling and reuse.
