MapMyIndia Accuses Ola Electric of Data Theft, Sends Legal Notice
Digital navigation firm CE Info Systems, owner of the MapmyIndia brand, has sent a legal notice to Ola Electric. The company alleges that Ola Electric copied its data and reverse-engineered its app to create Ola Maps. Ola Electric, which is preparing for an IPO, denies the allegations.
Digital navigation firm CE Info Systems, which owns the MapmyIndia brand, has issued a legal notice to Ola Electric. The firm alleges that the IPO-bound company has copied its data and reverse-engineered its app to develop Ola Maps, according to sources familiar with the matter.
A source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the notice was sent after initial discussions between the two companies failed to resolve the issue. 'As of now, a legal notice has been sent to Ola,' the source confirmed.
In response, an Ola Electric spokesperson stated, 'We categorically deny these allegations, which are false, malicious, and misleading. Ola Electric stands by the integrity of its business practices and will respond to the notice shortly.' The company is currently in the process of launching a Rs 6,100-crore IPO.
CE Info Systems reportedly claimed that Ola Electric has breached an agreement signed with the navigation firm in June 2021. The MapmyIndia owner alleges that Ola copied data for unjust commercial gains.
This development follows a recent statement by Ola Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, who announced on social media platform X that Ola has exited Google Maps, which cost the company Rs 100 crore annually, and transitioned to its internally developed Ola Maps. Aggarwal has been vocal about building indigenous AI and cloud platforms to provide better services and pricing to start-ups compared to foreign tech giants.
