Survey Reveals Parents' Struggle with Kids' Questions, Tech Steps in as a Solution

A recent Amazon Alexa survey highlights the challenges parents face in answering children's questions. The study shows a majority rely on technology like Alexa for assistance. Despite difficulties, most parents encourage inquiries, finding it beneficial for mutual learning.

An Amazon Alexa-commissioned survey by Kantar has illuminated the struggles parents face in addressing their children's curiosity. Conducted with over 750 parents across six cities in June 2024, the study revealed that 54% of parents often find it challenging to provide immediate answers to their kids' questions.

The survey underscores the role of technology in bridging this gap. Though 52% of parents search for accurate responses when they don't know the answer, 44% admitted to improvising on the spot. Notably, only 3% of parents ignore or evade questions, reflecting a strong commitment to addressing their children's inquisitiveness.

The research also highlights activities that trigger children's questions, such as watching TV (63%), traveling (57%), studying (56%), and using devices (52%). Popular topics include food, animals, and technology. Over 80% of parents use technology, notably voice AI like Amazon's Alexa, to aid in providing answers.

Alexa has emerged as a significant educational tool, with families asking 25 million questions monthly. Despite these challenges, 90% of parents encourage questions to foster learning, and 92% report that they learn new information themselves in the process. Deepender Rana from Kantar emphasized the value of screen-free learning, highlighting Alexa as a trusted resource in this domain.
