Sky to Launch Broadband Services on CityFibre's Network in Major Move Against BT

British media company Sky announced it will launch its broadband services on internet provider CityFibre's network starting next year. The partnership aims to expand Sky's full fibre broadband reach, challenging BT's dominance in the UK broadband market. CityFibre, already serving 3.8 million customers, plans significant network expansions.

British media company Sky is set to roll out its broadband services on internet provider CityFibre's network, a move announced on Tuesday that caused BT's shares to drop nearly 5%.

Sky's full fibre broadband will launch to customers on the CityFibre network next year, representing a direct challenge to BT, the leading broadband and mobile operator in the country. Sky currently uses BT's Openreach network to provide broadband services.

CityFibre aims to expand its network from 3.8 million to 8 million customers in the coming years and remains the largest alternative network provider in the UK. By utilizing CityFibre, Sky plans to extend its broadband offerings to about 1.3 million rural homes.

CityFibre Chief Executive Greg Mesch announced, "This partnership with Sky is a huge vote of confidence in our business and has cemented CityFibre’s position as the UK’s third digital infrastructure platform." CityFibre is financially backed by Goldman Sachs and Antin Infrastructure Partners.
