U.S. Approves $740 Million Stinger Missile Sale to Egypt
The U.S. Department of State has sanctioned the sale of 720 Stinger missiles to Egypt for $740 million. The sale, facilitated by RTX Corp, follows a similar order by NATO members, extending the production backlog through 2029. Egypt plans to use the missiles on Avenger launcher-equipped vehicles.
The U.S. Department of State has sanctioned a potential $740 million sale of 720 Stinger missiles to Egypt, the Pentagon announced on Tuesday.
These missiles, which have seen extensive use in Ukraine and are highly sought after in European countries fearing Russian aggression, will be mounted on vehicles equipped with the Avenger launcher system, as opposed to being shoulder-fired.
The principal contractor for the deal is RTX Corp, the Pentagon stated. Earlier this year, several NATO members ordered nearly $700 million worth of these missiles, extending the production line backlog through 2029. Egypt's order now adds to that line.
