Investment in the UK's data centre sector is set to skyrocket, reaching £10 billion annually by 2029, according to Barbour ABI's analysis.
Backing from tech giants and government initiatives, including AI Growth Zones, is driving this more than five-fold increase from 2024. Both national and international players, such as U.S. firms Microsoft, Nvidia, and Google, are committing billions to UK infrastructure.
The surge, fueled by generative AI developments post-ChatGPT, positions data centres as pivotal to technological advancement, with notable projects like Blackstone's planned $13 billion hyperscale centre in North East England.
