UAE and South Korea Join Forces for Stargate AI Campus
South Korea and the UAE partner to develop a large AI data campus as part of the Stargate project. Announced during President Lee's UAE visit, the project forms part of a strategic deal led by President Trump, involving global tech firms to construct AI data centers despite previous U.S. technology restrictions.
South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have announced a landmark collaboration on the Stargate project, aiming to construct an expansive artificial intelligence data campus in the Gulf region. This significant initiative was disclosed during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's summit visit to the UAE.
The Stargate UAE project is a key part of an agreement facilitated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The initiative seeks to establish the world's largest AI data centers outside the United States, a move that diverges from prior U.S. policies restricting advanced technology exports to the UAE due to its close ties with China.
The initial phase, a 1-gigawatt project, will be developed by the UAE's state-backed firm G42 in collaboration with technology giants including OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco Systems, and Japan's SoftBank Group.
