Japan has initiated an investigation into Elon Musk's AI service, Grok, over its potential to generate inappropriate images. This move places Japan among a growing number of countries scrutinizing AI's ethical boundaries, particularly regarding content that could be deemed explicit.
Economic Security Minister Kimi Onoda stated that the government would explore every option, even legal measures, to curb any offensive content generated by Grok. The Cabinet Office has called upon X Corp for immediate improvements, though the company has yet to respond.
This development follows similar actions by Britain and Canada, and temporary blocks by Malaysia and Indonesia, as global concerns rise over AI technology's capacity to create sexualized images of individuals, especially women and minors.
