In a significant development for India's transit payment systems, PhonePe has rolled out the RuPay 'On-The-Go' Card, aligning with the country's 'One Nation One Card' vision. The card is a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), designed to facilitate easy, tap-and-pay transactions across an array of public transit platforms including metros, buses, trains, tolls, and parking services nationwide.

The 'On-The-Go' Card capitalizes on a prepaid, stored-value model, enabling offline contactless payments by retaining balance data directly on the card's chip. This ensures seamless functionality even without an internet connection, accommodating a balance limit of Rs 2,000 and an offline transaction maximum of Rs 500. This instant issuance process significantly improves the daily commute experience for millions.

Though the initial launch collaborates with Hyderabad Metro, plans are underway to expand the card's interoperability across various transit providers in multiple cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Deep Agrawal, Head of Payments at PhonePe, emphasizes this as a strategic move towards merging digital wallet solutions with national public transportation systems, fostering a secure and integrated transit experience for all users.
