Google Lets You Change Your Gmail Address: A New Era for Email Users
Google now allows users to change their Gmail addresses, a feature gradually being implemented across the United States. This update, announced by CEO Sundar Pichai, is aimed at users seeking to update outdated or embarrassing email handles. The process involves managing settings in Google Account. Users will have both old and new addresses active.
In a surprising update, Google is providing its users with the much-requested ability to change their Gmail addresses. The feature is now fully available in the United States, having been piloted in India last year, as disclosed in a recent blog post by the tech giant.
CEO Sundar Pichai enthusiastically announced the change, highlighting its appeal to users who have outgrown their old, often awkward, Gmail handles from the service's early years, which started in 2004. This new ability allows users to maintain their original email address as an alternative, while using a new, updated one.
However, users should be aware of potential hiccups during the transition. Access to other Google services and third-party apps might face temporary disruptions. Google anticipates a smooth roll-out but has advised vigilance, especially for Chromebook users who might need extra troubleshooting for the new email changes.
