In a significant boost to India's electronics sector, Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt Ltd is set to establish a special economic zone (SEZ) in Dholera, Gujarat. This move will support both electronic hardware and software, including IT services.

The SEZ, sprawling across 66.16 hectares, will host India's inaugural chip fabrication unit with a proposed investment of Rs 91,000 crore. This ambitious project is anticipated to generate approximately 21,000 jobs, according to the Additional Secretary in the Commerce Ministry, Ajay Bhadoo.

To further accommodate the semiconductor industry, the government reduced the minimum contiguous land requirement for these sectors. So far, five SEZs have been notified, indicating a robust push towards self-reliance in technology and semiconductor manufacturing.
