AirAsia Leads Historic A220 Order in $19 Billion Deal
AirAsia has ordered 150 A220-300 jets from Airbus, marking the largest single-firm order for this model. With potential for an additional 150 if a stretched version is developed, the purchase is valued at $19 billion. Airbus aims to boost production, overcoming prior financial challenges.
AirAsia has placed a monumental order for 150 A220-300 aircraft from Airbus, the largest ever single-firm procurement of this model, announced during an event in Quebec.
This deal, valued at $19 billion, positions AirAsia as a pivotal customer for Airbus, eyeing future expansions if a larger version of the A220 materializes.
Airbus, which took over the A220 program from Bombardier in 2018, looks to improve production outcomes amid a financial recovery effort, while engaging in market competition with Embraer's E2 model.
