Ericsson partners with Russia's MOTIV to test, deploy 5G-ready products

Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russian telecom group MOTIV to conduct joint testing and deployment of 5G-ready products.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will help the Russian service provider to provide services based on 5G technologies by holding a number of joint activities, including testing and implementation of advanced MIMO4x4, LAA and Massive-MIMO technologies for the transition to LTE-Advanced Pro technology and a joint lab testing of 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and Packet Core based on Ericsson technical solutions, the companies said in a press release.

"5G is set to transform lives, industries and workplaces in Russia, so we are pleased to partner with MOTIV on their way to make that happen. Through this Memorandum of Understanding, MOTIV's customers will get to enjoy fantastic new user experiences and benefits as we move towards a 5G reality," said Sebastian Tolstoy, Head of Ericsson Russia.

The MoU also involves:

• The joint creation of 5G pilot zones on the MOTIV commercial network
• Joint preparation for the deployment of 5G segments on the network Motive
