Peru government to invest more than 140 mln soles to fight against tuberculosis

The vice minister of Benefits and Health Insurance, Henry Rebaza of the Ministry of Health, gave the announcement.

The Peruvian Claudio Espinoza Choquepura, world champion of mathematics in 2003, showed this last Monday a great improvement in his fight to overcome tuberculosis that afflicts him. 

This is not the only good news of the week. The Deputy Minister of Health Services and Health, Henry Rebaza reported that the Ministry of Health will invest more than 142 million soles to strengthen the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

During the launch of the National TB Prevention Week held in Pucallpa, Ucayali, the deputy minister said that this budget is part of the Intervention Plan for the Prevention and Control of TB and will be used to improve the equipment of health facilities, as well as its laboratories and, will increase the coverage of preventive campaigns, among other actions.

"We have to unite to fight permanently against tuberculosis. Today the authorities make the pact with society to work for a healthy culture, we have to work to protect the abilities of our children and so that patients do not abandon the treatment and can be cured, "said Henry Rebaza.

Currently, the Ministry of Health, through the Regional Health Directorates (Diresas) strengthens TB diagnosis methods (rapid sensitivity tests), also provides a basket of food (PANTBC) within the Social Complementary Food Program co-executed with the Ministry of Health. Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS).

Tuberculosis Prevention Week began with the installation of an informative fair in several cities of the country. In Pucallpa, a TB screening and diagnosis campaign was conducted, and counseling was given on hand washing, healthy eating and vaccination against yellow fever, among others.
