Solar Philippines to put USD 15mn in microgrid projects

Town areas eyed under the projects are in Davao, Palawan, Mindoro, Batangas, Isabela, Romblon, Masbate, and Cagayan.

Solar Philippines is putting up USD 15 million worth of microgrid Projects in 10 locations across the country.

With an aim to provide Electricity supply in Off-Grid areas in the country Solar Philippines founder and president Leandro Leviste said that the company will be bringing 24-hour power to a dozen or more towns before the year ends.

Town areas eyed under the projects are in Davao, Palawan, Mindoro, Batangas, Isabela, Romblon, Masbate, and Cagayan.

Microgrid projects in Claveria, Masbate, Calayan and Cagayan will be completed within a month and projects in Divilacan and Maconacon, Isabela will be finished in 60 days.

Leviste also revealed about the work which has already been done. The company has set up a social enterprise arm called Solar Para Sa Bayan. The enterprise will be responsible for implementing these money losing projects and seeding that equity from our profits in our solar farms.

The estimated cost of the solar component is expected to be around USD 1 mn per megawatt, out of which 0.3 mn is for storage and another 0.3 mn for the diesel to be used in the entire project.

Solar Philippines finished its maiden solar battery project in Mindoro and Palauan in March. The panels used from the project were from the Solar Phillippines factory in Batangas.
