Roskomnadzor on Monday began blocking Telegram in Russia after a relevant court decision and plans to send requests to online application stores demanding the removal of a popular messenger, Interfax reports with reference to the head of the department Alexander Zharov.

Operators of communication were instructed to restrict access to the Telegram application on the territory of the Russian Federation. According to Zharov, the process of blocking will take several hours.

"It will take several hours since the operators unload it, and the process of blocking will gradually increase," the Interfax quotes the head of Roskomnadzor.

Many Telegram users on Monday afternoon already experienced interruptions in the messenger's work.

The Tangasky court in Moscow on Friday satisfied the suit of Roskomnadzor on the blocking of the messenger in Russia. The Office filed a lawsuit because of Telegram's unwillingness to cooperate with the Russian authorities and hand over the decryption keys.

According to Zharov, referenced by Interfax, Roskomnadzor will send inquiries to online stores App Store and Google Play with a request to remove the application Telegram.

The FSB had previously stated that the terrorists had used Telegram to organize crimes in Russia, and called this messenger the most popular among members of "international terrorist organizations" in Russia.
