India is the sixth largest economy on the planet: IMF

The first five economies are the United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.

India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached 2.6 billion dollars in 2017, to become the sixth largest economy in the world, displacing France.

The first five economies are the United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom, according to the global economic outlook of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for April 2018, a per Prensa Latina.

Both the World Bank and the IMF state in their respective reports and projections that India finally overcame the adverse impact of the measures to demonetize the economy and introduce a unified tax system for goods and services.

The IMF maintained its growth forecast of 7.4 percent of India's GDP for 2018 and 7.8 percent in 2019, compared to 6.7 percent in 2017. All these data point to the conclusion that India catapulted South Asia as the fastest growing region in the world.

And although France is expected to regain the sixth place in the year, Indian economists are confident that the South Asian giant will maintain its current position despite the dynamism of GDP projections, based on a certain calculation that considers local prices and the exchange rate of the US dollar.

It is also projected that India crosses the three trillion dollar mark, also surpassing Great Britain, to enter the precious space of the five major economies of the planet.
