Govindappa Venkataswamy was the one who gave millions of people a new life eliminating needless blindness. Through Aravind Eye Hospitals he served people by aiding them with his institute which is also known as the largest provider of eye care in the world. Being born (1918) in Vandamalapuram in Tamil Nadu, he was the eldest in the four siblings. His family's occupation was farming and used to walk 2 km away each day to study his early lessons. He followed Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekanand.
1976 was the year when he gifted Aravind Eye Hospital to millions of people giving them their sight back.
Aravind has the mission: To eliminate needless blindness. He was also conferred Padma Shri in 1973.
