Saint-Gobain awarded for contributions towards sustainable development in US

Glass manufacturer Saint-Gobain has bagged the United States Green Building Council Leadership award for its contributions made towards sustainable development in the country. "All of us at Saint-Gobain India are thrilled and proud to have received this honour from USGBC. It is humbling that our efforts towards sustainability have been recognised by a global platform", Saint-Gobain India, flat glass business, director (sales and marketing), A R Unnikrishnan said.

Being the first building materials manufacturer in the country to win the award, it gives more confidence to "further our efforts towards sustainability", he said.

The United States Green Building Council was institutionalised in 1993 by the American Institute of Architects to recognise and promote the sustainability-focused building practices. The companies selected for the award are evaluated as per the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

Saint-Gobain, which won the award recently, has cumulatively invested over Rs 3,500 crore with manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
