In the wake of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment, the Congress on Thursday called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to be held accountable for what it termed 'massive lapses.' The party has also pressed for the swift implementation of the Kavach anti-collision system on all routes.
Tragically, four people were killed and 20 injured when eight coaches of the train derailed near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. According to Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, all fatalities resulted from the incident.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi administration, accusing it of 'systematically jeopardizing' rail safety. He expressed condolences to the affected families and noted that a similar accident a month earlier had claimed 11 lives.
