Haryana Provides Transformer Fee Relief to Farmers

The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission has amended the Electricity Supply Code Regulations to eliminate fees for the replacement or repair of electricity transformers. This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on farmers who previously had to share the cost, even in cases of theft.

In a significant policy shift, the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has eliminated fees for the replacement and repair of electricity transformers, providing much-needed relief to the farming community.

Effective January 15, 2024, this amendment to the Electricity Supply Code Regulations was officially announced by HERC. As per the new directive, consumers, especially farmers, will no longer need to bear any cost for transformer replacement or repair, regardless of the reason, including instances of theft.

Previously, farmers were required to deposit 20 percent of the transformer cost if damaged or stolen within the warranty period and 10 percent beyond it. This policy change, recognizing the financial difficulties farmers face, aims to ease their economic strain and acknowledges their critical role in the state's economy.
