On Wednesday, Lok Sabha MP N K Premachandran highlighted concerns about the safety measures in Indian Railways, critiquing the current budget allocation as insufficient.

Premchandran, from the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), stressed that passenger safety should be a top government priority. He noted that the timely installation of the automatic train-protection system 'Kavach' could have saved many lives, pointing to past accidents and high casualty rates.

Other MPs joined the discussion, with some calling for the reinstatement of train concessions for seniors and journalists. Meanwhile, BJP's Bidyut Baran Mahato defended the government's modernization efforts, arguing against the politicization of train accidents and highlighting a decline in derailments from over 3,600 in 2013-14 to 481 in 2023-24.
