India's tax landscape has transformed significantly with the Union Budget 2024-25 unveiling the new income tax regime. An astounding 72% of taxpayers chose the new regime, as 5.27 crore out of 7.28 crore ITRs filed for the Assessment Year 2024-25 opted for the simpler, more beneficial system.

Emphasizing simplicity, the government has incentivized this shift, eliminating the need for numerous deductions and exemptions. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) highlighted the new structure’s clear and straightforward tax liability calculations, reducing errors and saving time, particularly benefiting individuals with multiple income sources.

Featuring lower tax rates, the new regime boosts disposable income, enhancing financial decision-making capabilities, from spending and saving to investing. It aims to broaden the tax base and boost public revenue, ultimately contributing to essential services and infrastructure development.
