Bangladesh-Indo Bus Services Halt Amid Turmoil

45 Bangladeshi citizens returning from Kolkata were forced to deboard as Dhaka-bound bus services were suspended at Petrapole due to unrest in Bangladesh. The disruption stems from protests over job quotas leading to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation. Efforts to resume services continue amid uncertainties.

In a significant disruption to cross-border travel, bus services between India and Bangladesh were suspended amidst ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. This left 45 Bangladeshi citizens deboarding at Petrapole, the land port on the Indian side, as they returned from Kolkata on Tuesday.

Bangladesh is in turmoil following unprecedented street protests over job quotas, forcing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee. Efforts to maintain the bus services for the benefit of citizens of both countries have been hindered by this unrest.

Abani Ghosh, owner of Shyamali Paribahan, confirmed that services are halted until further notice. Meanwhile, train services between the countries have also been suspended, adding another layer of difficulty for travel and transport during this period of instability.
