By midday, the Shanghai Composite index was up 0.31% to 2,876.17 points, and the blue-chip CSI 300 index rose 0.18%. However, sectors like consumer staples and real estate saw declines. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was up 1.31%. The yuan was quoted at 7.183 per U.S. dollar, weaker than the previous close of 7.155.
