Delta Air announced on Thursday that it is initiating legal claims against CrowdStrike and Microsoft after a global software update outage disrupted the travel plans of 1.3 million passengers and resulted in losses exceeding $500 million for the airline.

'There is no basis whatsoever to suggest that Delta was in any way responsible for the faulty software that disrupted systems globally, including Delta's,' stated lawyer David Boies, representing Delta, in a letter to CrowdStrike. Boies also refuted CrowdStrike's assertion that the company's liability is limited to 'single-digit millions.'

The airline is seeking compensation for the significant impact on its operations and customer satisfaction caused by what it describes as a software failure beyond its control.
