The entire 701-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is expected to be operational by the end of September, completing a major transportation project in Maharashtra. The final phase spans 76 kilometers.
Anilkumar Gaikwad, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), revealed on Friday that the 76-km-long stretch—between Igatpuri in Nashik and Aamne in Thane—will be completed by September-end, except for a small 3-km-long segment near Khardi town.
He highlighted the challenges faced in constructing the 16 deep valley crossings and five tunnels along the route. The west-end corridor at Vashala, involving twin viaducts, should be completed by November-end. The project, costing Rs 55,000 crore, once finished, will significantly cut travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 18 hours to just 8.
