Ukraine Enforces Civilian Movement Restrictions Amid Northeastern Offensive
Ukraine has imposed restrictions on civilian movement within a 20 km zone in the northeastern Sumy region bordering Russia. The measure, driven by intensified hostilities and Russian sabotage activities, allows residents with proof of registration to access their homes. This comes as Ukrainian troops push further into Russian-held territories.
Ukraine is implementing restrictions on civilian movement within a 20 km zone in the northeastern Sumy region, which borders Russia. The decision, announced by Kyiv’s general staff on Tuesday, comes as Ukrainian forces advance into Russian territory amid a recent surprise offensive.
The measure is aimed at countering the increased intensity of hostilities and the activation of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the area. Specific restrictions apply to all categories of citizens within the designated border zone, particularly around Russia's Kursk region. These restrictions allow residents to access their homes by providing proof of registration.
The temporary measure has been adopted following a successful offensive last week, where Ukrainian troops breached the Russian border approximately 530 km southwest of Moscow. This action resulted in the capture of substantial Russian territory and led to widespread civilian evacuations on both sides of the border.
