Wall Street Sets Sights on Key Inflation Data
Futures tied to Wall Street's main indexes increased on Tuesday as investors awaited key producer prices data, which will provide insights into the Federal Reserve's battle against inflation. Market sentiment wavers ahead of crucial consumer price figures and potential interest rate adjustments by the Fed. Mixed corporate results add to the day's nuances.
Futures linked to Wall Street's principal indexes rose on Tuesday in anticipation of producer prices data, expected to shed light on the Federal Reserve's ongoing efforts to combat inflation and its interest-rate strategy.
Following a tumultuous week marked by mixed economic signals and a rate hike from Japan's central bank, the markets showed little movement on Monday. The S&P 500 remained nearly flat, while the Nasdaq managed modest gains. Focus now shifts to the U.S. producer price index (PPI) for July, which is predicted to reveal a moderation in inflation to 2.3% year-over-year, with no change from the previous month.
Attention will soon turn to the critical consumer price index (CPI) data for July, set to be released on Wednesday. Traders are divided on whether the Federal Reserve will opt for a 25- or 50-basis point interest rate cut in September, with year-end rates anticipated to be between 4.25% and 4.50%, according to CME's FedWatch Tool. Comments from Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic, scheduled for 1:15 p.m. ET, will also be closely watched for economic insights.
