Indian Carriers Witness 7.3% Growth in July Passenger Traffic Amid Market Share Shifts
Indian airlines flew over 1.29 crore passengers in July 2024, a 7.3% increase from the previous year but a drop from June's 1.32 crore. IndiGo led with a 62% market share while Air India’s share dropped to 14.3%. Overall, domestic air traffic showed year-on-year growth despite fluctuations.

Indian airlines observed a significant surge in passenger traffic in July 2024, transporting more than 1.29 crore passengers, marking a 7.3% increase compared to July of the previous year, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Despite this growth, July's figures fell short of June's numbers, which saw 1.32 crore passengers. IndiGo strengthened its dominance in the domestic market, increasing its share to 62%, while Air India's share decreased to 14.3%. Vistara's market share grew to 10%, AIX Connect and SpiceJet saw declines to 4.5% and 3.1%, respectively. Akasa Air and Alliance Air also saw reductions in their market shares.
Throughout January to July 2024, domestic carriers flew 923.35 lakh passengers, up from 881.94 lakh in the same period the previous year, indicating an annual growth of 4.70%. However, issues like denied boarding, flight cancellations, and delays persisted, affecting over 4.5 lakh passengers in July alone, with airlines providing substantial compensation and facilities in response.
