The approval for the new Indore-Manmad railway line project marks a significant stride toward improved connectivity and economic growth. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday stated that the project will enable the transportation of goods from Nepal-adjacent border areas to Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs greenlit the 309-km, Rs 18,036 crore project on Monday. Positioned ahead of the forthcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, the line will link Indore, the financial hub of Madhya Pradesh, with Manmad in north Maharashtra.
Vaishnaw emphasized that the rail line would benefit regions across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and several Indian states by linking them to Mumbai's port. The project, he noted, is a 'win-win' for the entire nation, bolstering economic development, manufacturing, religious tourism, and cultural activities. Trains on this line will run up to 160 kmph, significantly cutting down travel time and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1,380 million kg, equivalent to planting 5.50 crore trees.
