Production of consumer durable products at Samsung's Chennai plant has been severely disrupted due to a significant strike by around 900 factory workers, which accounts for nearly half of the workforce, industry sources reported on Monday.
The strike was initiated by workers demanding a wage increase and improvements in working conditions.
'Around 50 percent of Samsung factory workers in Chennai initiated a strike today,' said an industry source who preferred to remain anonymous. 'The action has deeply impacted production activities.'
Samsung employs approximately 1,800 workers at the Chennai factory, which produces consumer durables such as televisions, refrigerators, and washing machines.
In response, a spokesperson for Samsung India stated, 'The welfare of our employees is our top priority at Samsung India. We are actively engaging with our workers to address any grievances and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations. We will also ensure minimal disruption to our consumers.'
