EU Sanctions on Iran for Missile Transfers to Russia
The European Union has imposed sanctions on seven individuals and seven organizations, including Iran Air, due to their involvement in transferring ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia. The decision follows similar actions by the United States, despite Iranian denials of weapon transfers to Russia.
The European Union took a significant step on Monday by agreeing to impose sanctions on a number of individuals and organizations, including Iran Air, implicated in the transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia from Iran.
The list of sanctioned entities also names Saha Airlines, Mahan Air, and Iran's Deputy Defence Minister Seyed Hamzeh Ghalandari. These actions align with previous U.S. sanctions, as Washington accused Iran of supplying Russia with ballistic missiles crucial for its ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Despite these serious allegations, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has firmly denied any weapons transfers to Russia under his administration, which began in August. However, sanctions continue to target high-profile figures within Iranian defense and aviation sectors, enforcing asset freezes and travel bans within the EU.
