Dense fog at Kolkata airport led to delays in the departure of 10 flights on Wednesday, according to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Despite low visibility conditions, arrivals were unaffected as aircraft successfully landed using established procedures.

From 3.40 am to 7.40 am, Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) were in place, guiding aircraft with 'follow-me' vehicles once visibility dipped below 800 metres. These procedures involve a coordinated effort among the airport operator, air traffic control (ATC), and pilots to ensure safety.

Similar disruptions due to fog were reported from January 23-25, affecting a significant number of flights. However, no flights were cancelled or diverted during Wednesday's weather-related challenges, maintaining operational continuity amid adverse conditions.
