Switzerland's Economic Ties with India: Future Prospects and Challenges

Switzerland's State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Helene Budliger Artieda, emphasizes the unhealthy impact of trade wars on countries like India and Switzerland. She advocates for India as a global manufacturing hub. The India-EFTA free trade agreement, called TEPA, is expected to boost economic cooperation and substantial investments.

In a recent statement, Switzerland's State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Helene Budliger Artieda, highlighted the detrimental effects of trade wars on economies like India and Switzerland. She emphasized the potential for India to emerge as a global manufacturing leader with Swiss investment, facilitated by the forthcoming Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

The agreement, which concluded after a lengthy negotiation spanning 16 years, brings the promise of USD 100 billion investment from the EFTA bloc over 15 years. This collaboration hopes to leverage India's large market and young workforce, contrasting with Switzerland's aging demographic, to benefit both regions economically.

Artieda also inaugurated SIG's new aseptic carton plant near Ahmedabad, noting the eagerness among Swiss companies to invest in India. The TEPA agreement is expected to create up to one million jobs in India, fostering economic growth and partnership between the two regions.
