In a tragic incident near Seoul, South Korea, a bridge collapse at a highway construction site has claimed the lives of three individuals and left six injured, authorities reported on Tuesday. The accident occurred at 9:49 a.m. (0049 GMT) in Anseong, approximately 70 kilometers from the capital, when the steel structures supporting the bridge gave way.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the collapse involved five 50-meter steel structures, which fell one after another as they were hoisted into place by a crane. The National Fire Agency has confirmed the fatalities and severe injuries, with rescue efforts underway for a person believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
Broadcast footage captured by YTN showed the dramatic collapse of the bridge deck, prompting Acting President Choi Sang-mok to mandate the deployment of all available resources for rescue operations. The Ministry of Transport has sent officials to the site to ensure safety and investigate the cause of the collapse.
