At the Assam 2.0 Summit held recently, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, announced a bold investment commitment of over ₹50,000 crore in Assam over the next five years. The announcement underscores Reliance's strategic focus on advancing the state's technology and digital sectors.
Ambani emphasized that Reliance intends to more than quadruple its investments in Assam, highlighting its previous commitments and accomplishments since the 2018 summit, where it initially pledged ₹5,000 crore, subsequently surpassing ₹12,000 crore in investments so far.
The investment aligns with Reliance's vision of making Assam 'tech-ready and AI-ready.' Ambani credited Reliance Jio for revolutionizing Assam's telecom landscape, helping transition the state from 2G networks to 5G technology. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's transformative policies as catalysts for Assam's growth, pointing out the state's newfound centrality on India's development map due to Modi's frequent engagements.
Ambani also praised the theme of 'Advantage Assam,' reflecting the state's rapid development under Modi's governance. Key advantages include shifting the region to the development forefront, advocating the 'Act East, Act Fast, Act First' policy to make Assam a growth hub, and boosting connectivity and technology as development drivers. Ambani projects Assam's future as a 'technological paradise,' expanding beyond its global reputation as a tea paradise.
