Union Minister of Railways, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has highlighted the North East as a pivotal region for India's development. Speaking at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati on Tuesday, he unveiled plans for a new semiconductor plant in Assam, underscoring the state's increasing significance in the electronics and semiconductor sector.
During the summit, Vaishnaw announced the transformation of Guwahati Railway Station into a new IT hub, enhancing the region's digital infrastructure. The minister also noted the government's success in building 1,824 kilometers of railway tracks in Assam and the North East since 2014. Additionally, Vaishnaw revealed the commissioning of Gati Shakti cargo terminals and the operational status of a Vande Bharat Express in the Northeast.
Echoing the government’s commitment to connectivity, he announced the upcoming operation of two Amrit Bharat trains and the establishment of a railway engine remanufacturing facility in Lumding. Furthermore, developments like a Wagon Workshop in Bodoland and a Greenfield Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in Kamrup were shared. Assam's electronic and mobile manufacturing boom received a boost with the upgrade of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology to a Deemed-to-be University. These initiatives aim to position Assam as a prime industrial hub, reinforced by international collaborations with industry groups from Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan.
