India Experiences 124% Surge in Foreign Tourist Arrivals

In 2023, foreign tourist arrivals in India increased by 124% to 1.92 crore. The e-Visa scheme now extends to 167 countries, facilitating easier access for international visitors.

India's tourism sector witnessed a significant upswing in 2023, with foreign tourist arrivals soaring by an impressive 124% to reach 1.92 crore, according to a written statement by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in the Lok Sabha.

Major tourist hotspots included states like Delhi, Goa, and Kerala. The Ministry of Tourism has taken strategic measures to elevate India's global tourism appeal, including initiatives like the 'Swadesh Darshan' and 'PRASHAD' schemes, aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and facilities.

With the e-Visa scheme now accessible to 167 countries and an array of promotional campaigns launched, India is attracting a diverse array of visitors. The Ministry's collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the RCS-UDAN Scheme has further boosted connectivity to key tourist destinations.
